Security Sector Reform (SSR)

Dates and place: November 2 to 6, 2015 in Barcelona

Security sector reform (SSR) training course

Over the past decade Security Sector Reform (SSR) has emerged as one of the key areas in which to assist post-conflict and fragile states. A security sector with focus on human security is critical in promoting sustainable peace, Rule of Law and good governance, and thus preventing a country from entering into conflict.

Once or twice every year, the FBA offers a five-day course on SSR. Participants will acquire an understanding of the concept and how the approach has evolved. The challenges and opportunities arising in post-conflict situations will be analysed, bearing in mind the importance of both sustainability and political ownership.

The course is based upon the holistic approach needed in SSR. Academic lecturers and experienced practitioners will provide theoretical skills and practical case studies to illustrate the comprehensive process of SSR. Interchange of experiences and lessons learned are vital parts of the course.

Organized by

The Barcelona International Peace Resource Center jointly with the Folke Bernadotte Academy (FBA), Sweden
